 The name Siachen refers to  -------------- the other side by Pakistan.

सियाचिन का अर्थ है "जंगली गुलाबों की भूमि।" बाल्टी भाषा में गुलाब प्रजाति का पौधा "सिया" कहलाता है, और "चुन" का अर्थ है बहुत होना। कठोर जलवायु के बावजूद, इसका नाम सुंदर अर्थ देता है। सियाचिन ग्लेशियर समुद्र तल से 5,753 मीटर की ऊँचाई पर स्थित है, जो ट्रांस हिमालय की काराकोरम श्रृंखला का सबसे लंबा ग्लेशियर है। यह भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच 'नियंत्रण रेखा' (Line of Control) के उत्तर-पूर्व में है। नियंत्रण रेखा वह रेखा है जिसे 1972 से कश्मीर के विभाजन के लिए भारत और पाकिस्तान ने मान्यता दी है, जिस पर भारत और पाकिस्तान का नियंत्रण है।
